Rakhi Celebration

School celebrated Rakshabandhan a day early on Wednesday, marked by usual fervour and gaiety that one associates with this auspicious occasion. The event was celebrated with full enthusiasm and zeal in the PYP.  PYP students were dressed in colourful festive clothes. The full PYP family gathered under the auditorium to tie Rakhies ceremoniously- a sign to show that school is indeed a home away from home.  Rakhi making competition was organized. Students from all classes participated in the celebration and made colourful rakhies which got the appreciation of teachers.Girls dolled themselves up in bandhani, kalamkari, silk and netted outfits. Each of us experienced nostalgic moments when we saw the enthusiastic performance put up by the students.

All in all, the celebration of this festival which signifies the beautiful family bond of trust and protection between a boy and a girl helped the students to nurture a healthy relationship amongst all at school – which is indeed a home away from home. The celebration ended with an enthusiastic and heart popping dance party. Students were found donning traditional attire during the day.

“Kids love to experiment with rakhis,” said Ms. Neelu Ranjan, homeroom teacher of grade Nursery who believes that celebration of festivals in schools is necessary. “Due to nuclear families, children today are deprived of true spirit of such festivals. Such celebrations in schools teach students about our traditions,” she added.
