Wholesome support, constructive guidance and constant encouragement are the hallmark of VMWC

ALUMNI STORY - CLASS OF 1993

Flying all alone at more than 40,000 feet above the ground at twice the speed
of sound in a small fighter aircraft cockpit I often feel on top of the world. I often finish my daily prayers thanking God for all I am today and reflect on the journey I treaded. Having completed my class XII in 1993 with flying colours from Modern School (now Vidyatree Modern World College), I was selected for the prestigious National Defence Academy and bid adieu to my school, fully armed and equipped for life. I graduated from NDA in Dec 1996 and was awarded the prestigious Presidents Gold Medal for standing first in overall order of merit. Since then, I have been a
fighter pilot in Indian Air Force. I have flown various fighter aircraft of the IAF and have achieved various qualifications and appointments. Presently tenanting the rank of Group Captain, I am commanding a premier fighter squadron equipped with one of the best aircraft in the world. I have also worked with the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission on deputation for a year in Sudan (Africa) as an Air Operations Officer.
Although the major credit for what I am today goes to my parents who sacrificed everything to ensure their children’s future, there have been certain other happenings which guided me all along. One of the most transformational event in my life was in May 1991 when after class X I got admission in Modern School. Those two critical years (Class XI & XII) in Modern School brought out the best in me and transformed me into a dynamic, capable and confident all-rounder fully prepared for the future challenges of life.
Wholesome support, constructive guidance and constant encouragement
were the hallmark of Modern School. The entire school felt like a close knit family and the atmosphere was tailor made for comprehensive education and growth of the students. I think there was not a single day in my two years in Modern School that I would have been absent. The environment extracted our dedicated efforts towards learning and whole hearted participation in all the extra-curricular activities. Our sense of belonging, pride, love and affection for the school was so high that we would often work overtime and extra hard to prepare for various interschool activities and competitions so as not let the school image down.

Whenever I Look back, I feel that the time spent in Modern School was the
most important time of my life as it prepared me for the life ahead and taught me valuable ethics and lessons for success in life. Whenever I visit Lucknow, I make it a point to visit the school and pay homage to my alma mater. I hope that the school achieve greater heights in the time to come and achieve glory through its students. I am sure that the basic DNA of the school set by Principal Kapoor– Students First, Always and Everytime – will continue to be the guiding force for all and take the School to greater glory.
